Tattoo Removal
Tattoo removal is a safe and effective treatment used with a laser device. Treatment includes short pulses of concentrated laser light into the skin on the inked area. The method and delivery of wavelength is based on many variables: color, density, professionalism of the tattoo and tattoo depth. Black tattoos tend to be the easiest to remove because black absorbs the full spectrum of light being delivered. Tattoos with lighter colors such as green and yellow have less pigment which cause it to be more difficult and may require more treatment sessions. Results vary and treatment numbers can range from two to as many as twenty treatments. Laser tattoo removal ranges in price, typically anywhere between 100-250 dollars per session.
During treatment patient and doctor wear protective eyewear to shield their eyes from the laser. The area is cleansed and may be iced prior to prevent pain. Treatment is generally quick and may be painful; patients describe it as worse than the original application of their tattoo. Anesthetic may be used or Tylenol may be taken prior to reduce pain.
Following treatment the skin is tender and warm, patients may apply ice for a short time to relieve discomfort. Each treatment the laser is breaking up the ink within the skin, desirable results will have the tattoo looking lighter and lighter with each treatment. Some side effects may be blistering, swelling or redness. These are desired results but are not uncommon and not serious. Patients schedule treatments approximately 4 weeks for best results.
